Critiques the manuscript as a whole and provides feedback on the plot/conflict/theme, character development, completeness, word choice, sentence flow, and more
The Editing & Critique Process
Proofreading,
Copy Editing & Line Editing
During the proofreading, copy editing, and line editing process, the tracked changes function in Microsoft Word is used to show all of the formatting, grammatical, and line editing changes that have been made. Any new text is inserted into the story, and the margins show formatting changes and text that have been removed.
Developmental Editing
For developmental editing, the tracked changes function is also used. However, unlike the proofreading and copy editing process, this phase edits for POV, character development, structure, voice, tone, etc., and comments about these issues are placed in the margins only.
In-Depth Critique
Once the proofreading, copy editing, line editing, and developmental editing phases have been completed, a document with feedback is created. It gives a complete assessment of the story's plot, character development, theme, readability, etc. (Note: Only a portion of the critique topics are shown.)
In some instances, developmental edits may also be included in the in-depth critique document. (Note: This does not apply to the Critique Only service.)
